Reiki Healing

Reiki is an ancient system of healing rediscovered in Japan in the late 19th Century by Dr. Mikau Usui. Reiki translates as Universal (Rei) Life Energy (Ki). Ki, the same Qi of Chinese Medicine, is the energy that is the energy that flows within us and supports life. When Ki fails to flow or is depleted, symptoms of disease can occur.

A Reiki practitioner can access Ki from its source and channel it onto others to produce healing effects. Reiki promotes harmony in body and mind, helping recharge, realign, and rebalance our energy. It can be very effective for the treatment of pain, depression, and emotional problems.

A Reiki session

Reiki treatments are received fully clothed, usually lying down on a massage table or, if this is impractical for the receiver, sitting comfortably on a chair. The practitioner places the hands on different parts of the body or just above it, to direct the healing energy to all the vital organs. The whole body is treated, with emphasis on specific problem areas. The receiver usually experiences deep relaxation and feelings of warmth and well-being.

What are the benefits of Reiki Healing?

Reiki promotes a feeling of deep relaxation and well-being which can have positive effects of the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. Through its relaxing effects, Reiki also activates the release of endorphins - the body's natural pain killers - which can produce immediate effects on pain levels. Regular Reiki sessions can also improve sleep and help re-establish normal sleeping patterns in people suffering from insomnia.

As Reiki is gentle, non invasive and has no side effects, it can be used alongside any other form ot treatment and on people with debilitating chronic and terminal conditions and it can provide relieve to some of the side-effects of strong conventional treatments such as chemo and radiotherapy .

During my years as a hospice therapist, I found Reiki invaluable for the improvement of the quality of life and the ability to cope in sufferers of chronic and terminal diseases .
